Welcome to Lakewood
Close-knit community near great entertainment options
Also known as Lakewood Proper, Lakewood can be found west of White Rock Lake and east of downtown Dallas and Old East Dallas. One of the largest residential neighborhoods in the area, it contains approximately 2,900 houses and covers several square miles. Although it does not have official boundaries, it is generally considered to lie between Mockingbird Lane in the north, Country Club Road and Gaston Road in the south, Winstead Road and Williamson Road in the east, and Abrams Road in the west.
Known for its historic and architecturally significant real estate, Lakewood boasts a collection of home styles, including Mid-Century modern, ranch, Tudor, Spanish, prairie, Mediterranean, and Colonial. CNN named it one of the top ten big-city neighborhoods in the United States. Part of the reason lies in its proximity to entertainment districts, downtown Dallas, and White Rock Lake.

Local Lifestyle
With some of the greatest entertainment, recreational, cultural, and shopping experiences in Dallas, Lakewood possesses a mixed urban and suburban feel. There is a strong sense of community due in part to the active neighborhood association. Unlike other neighborhoods, association membership is completely voluntary, and it can not enforce or create regulations. However, it does host many social and community events, including the annual Lakewood Home Festival Party and the 4th of July parade.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

La Stella Cucina Verace authentically prepares each dish with passion and experience. The restaurant brings a taste of Italy to Dallas through its family recipes.
The Crescent Hotel contains an unlooked-for gem in the form of
The Capital Grille restaurant. This luxury establishment boasts an elegant, sophisticated, comfortable atmosphere with Art Deco chandeliers and African mahogany paneling. Using only the best and freshest ingredients, each meal is meticulously crafted, from the dry-aged steaks to the fresh seafood. The service is attentive and gracious, with the entire staff completely dedicated to giving their guests the best experience possible.

Things to Do
Opened in 1929,
Lakewood park covers over 16 acres. The neighborhood park gives residents a beautiful outdoor area to relax or enjoy outdoor activities. With plenty of parking, picnic tables, a drinking fountain, and a grill, people can enjoy picnics together. The park also provides a baseball field, playground, pool, tennis court, recreation center, and trails for those looking for a more active pastime.
A small but fantastic jazz place, the
Balcony Club has a laid-back feel and a unique ambiance, in addition to its biggest attraction – the stellar, seven nights a week, live music. With both national and local jazz artists playing, the club provides various styles, including country, classic rock, funk, soul, and R&B. In the loft above Lakewood Theater, it opened in 1988 with pianist and entertainer G.T. Reed. Today, the Balcony Club continues to show appreciation for both live music and its patrons.
Since it was built in 1938,
Lakewood Theater and its iconic neon tower have been serving as a focal point of East Dallas. After 75 years of entertaining the community, the theater was hit by a freak hail storm. Fortunately, it has been restored, the tower lit, and the theater reopened. It remains Dallas’ only single-screen movie theater so close to its original condition. Audiences flock to the theater, only a short distance from downtown, to enjoy an expansive variety of shows and films.
The
Lakewood Country Club is a beautifully located 18-hole golf course that opened in 1912. An important part of the neighborhood and dedicated to providing a great venue for any occasion and exceptional service, the club is family-oriented, full-service, and private.
